7 checks reducing the risk of fraud

In addition to the basic fraud prevention measures (such as check digit or eCom with “sign parameter”) and 3-D Secure Datatrans offers the following 7 checks aimed at reducing the risk of fraud.

Possible threat

Check/measures taken by Datatrans

Fraudsters attempt to find out the expiry date and possibly also the CVV code of cards for which you have information.

Check 1: Limit of the maximum number of authorization requests per card number, and freely selectable timeframe (0–1440 Min.).

Fraudsters use systematic testing in an attempt to check the validity of various card numbers.

Check 2: Limit of the maximum number of authorization requests per client IP address and freely selectable timeframe (0–1440 Min.).

Damage to the merchants due to high level of improper purchasing.

Check 3: Limit of the maximum amount per credit card and freely selectable timeframe (0–1440 Min.).

see above Check 4: Combination of points 1 to 3.

Repeated misuse of a card number. Check 5: Blacklist – blocking of individual card numbers or entire ranges of numbers (BIN). Card numbers that have been registered as blocked remain on our blacklist files. Every transaction is cross-checked against this blacklist before data is forwarded to the financial institution. In the system comes across such an entry, the transaction is rejected immediately.

Misuse of BIN ranges susceptible to corruption. Check 6: Whitelist with choice of countries (based on BIN). The merchant can include or exclude countries via Datatrans’ Web interface. Customers from risk regions: Experience has shown that orders from troubled regions may harbour increased risk. Datatrans lets you reduce this risk by not accepting customer orders from such regions (IP addresses, card numbers).

Use of stolen or self-generated card numbers by fraudster who is unaware of the actual country of origin of the card. Check 7: Validation of the country of origin of the card based on the ISO country code. The customer also enters the country of origin of the card. The transaction will only be authorized if the country was correctly specified. For Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

These checks can be configured in Datatrans’ Web Administration Tool.

Most fraud settings can also be retained for your entire group. For further information on fraud settings and on the group function please send an e-mail to: .
